Edin Dzeko |
Milan was one of the higher ranking clubs in trying to acquire Dzeko when he emerged on the scene at Wolfsburg and were desperate to land him, but no deal went through.
Dzeko was reportedly linked with just about every big club in Europe before completing a move to City in January 2011. The 26-year-old striker has been a top performer for the club, scoring 28 goals in 62 matches.
His most important goal for City came in his last competitive match, when he headed in a corner kick in the 92nd minute to equalize against Queens Park Rangers. Two minutes later, teammate Sergio Aguero scored the goal to complete a miraculous victory to win the English Premier League.
City is now chasing to clear off some attacker where they are overstocked and Milan is looking for another striker with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's future in doubt. The club failed to get Carlos Tevez from City in the winter and they have also been linked with another Eastlands striker, Mario Balotelli. But the Italian Euro 2012 hero, who has been linked with Milan for a while, doesn't seem likely to move and would be too expensive for Milan.
Despite financial strains, Milan may be able to afford Dzeko as City are believed to be asking for Milan to simply pay them £19 million over the next four years.
Acquiring Dzeko would be a huge boost for Milan. Reigning Italian champions Juventus have been busy in the transfer market and are now said to be front-runners for Arsenal's Robin Van Persie.
With the future of Ibrahimovic in doubt, Alexandre Pato's injury woes and Robinho's inconsistency and now apparent link away from Milan, Dzeko will help provide a consistent threat in attack.
