Dutch source Sport1 claims that Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen is in talks with Man United ahead of a proposed move to Old Trafford. They report that such is the probable threat of losing the Danish international that boss Frank De Boer is already lining up a move to sign AZ midfielder Adam Maher to act as a replacement.
Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has already brought in Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell this summer and has stated his intention to bring in one or two more before the transfer window closes. The Scot has been linked with interest in Eriksen for some time and perhaps the fact that Ajax skipper Jan Vertonghen left for Tottenham convinced the 20 year old the time was right to leave the Amsterdam side.
Eriksen has had two standout seasons at the Amsterdam Arena, scoring 16 goals and providing an incredible 35 assists leading Ajax to back to back Eredivisie titles.
The young attacking midfielder had a fairly successful Euro 2012 finals tournament though Denmark failed to qualify from the group stage Eriksen still impressed at the highest level.
Eriksen would also adhere to Ferguson’s policy of looking to bring in youthful additions to the club though one wonders just how much Man United would have to fork out to land Ajax’s prized possession.
